Charting a New Course for Arts Centers Across the World

Over the past two years, the pandemic has challenged cultural organizations to grapple with serious questions: What is the relationship between the live arts and digital technology? How do we design arts venues and cultural experiences of the future? How do arts organizations embrace their civic responsibilities? How can arts centers become hubs for reconciliation where communities can come together to celebrate cultural identities?

On March 16th CCAR presented: “Charting a New Course for Arts Centers Across the World” – the third in our series: Cross-Border Currents – an online program initiated by CCAR and in partnership with the National Arts Club, New York. We were delighted to include additional partners: Embassy of Canada, Consulate General of Canada in New York and Arts Commons, Calgary.

The program explored how the largest cultural infrastructure project in recent Canadian history, Arts Commons Transformation (ACT), can chart a new course for the arts across the world. Panelists include members of the international design team for ACT’s project:

·       Marianne McKenna of KPMB in Toronto

·     Wanda Dalla Costa of Tawaw Architecture Collective in Phoenix

·       Joshua Dachs of Fisher Dachs Associates in New York City

· Alex Sarian, Arts Commons, Calgary (Moderator)
