Evan McKie
Evan McKie was born in Toronto, Ontario and trained at Canada’s National Ballet School, The Kirov Academy of Ballet in Washington, D.C. and the John Cranko School in Germany. He began his career as a member of Stuttgart Ballet and was promoted to Principal Dancer in 2008. In 2014, Mr. McKie joined The National Ballet of Canada as a Principal Dancer.
Mr. McKie is also a guest artist with the Paris Opéra Ballet, Bolshoi Ballet, Mariinsky Ballet and the Tokyo Ballet and performs in ballet galas and festivals worldwide. Numerous in-demand choreographers who have created roles on him include Wayne McGregor, Mauro Bigonzetti and others. Mr. McKie has also worked with legendary dance-makers John Neumeier, William Forsythe and the late Glen Tetley.
In 2012, Mr. McKie won Italy's prestigious ApuliArte prize for achievement in dance. German TANZ Magazine named him one of its International Dancers of the Year in 2013 and 2014. He has also won critics choice nominations for Most Outstanding Male Dancer by London, New York, Tokyo and Paris-based critics in Dance Europe magazine. Mr. McKie was awarded the inaugural Kirov Academy Alumni Award for his outstanding contribution and commitment to the arts.
Svetlana Lunkina
Svetlana Lunkina was born in Moscow, Russia and trained at the Moscow Choreographic Academy. Ms. Lunkina joined the Bolshoi Ballet in 1997 and was promoted to Principal Dancer in 2005. In 2013, she joined The National Ballet of Canada as a Principal Guest Artist and became a Principal Dancer with the company in 2014.
Over her 15 year career at the Bolshoi Ballet, Ms. Lunkina danced many leading roles in both classical and contemporary ballets. Her repertoire includes principal roles in Swan Lake, La Bayadère, Raymonda, Spartacus, Don Quixote, The Sleeping Beauty, The Nutcracker, Giselle, La Sylphide, Le Corsaire, Carmen and La Fille du Pharaon.
Ms. Lunkina is in demand as a guest artist at ballet companies around the world including the Berlin State Opera, Vienna State Opera, Teatro dell Opera in Rome, Paris Opéra Ballet, Kirov Ballet, Bavarian State Ballet, Bucharest National Ballet, Polish National Opera and the National Ballet of Japan.
Her many awards include the Triumph youth award in 2001, Prix Benois de la Danse in 2007, Brilliance of the 21st Century in 2018 and Ballerina of the Decade in 2010.
